Surgical Procedures on the Left Knee

ID: exh38915
This medical exhibit demonstrates three surgical procedures performed to repair various defects in the articular surface of the knee. Image A orients the viewer to the area of the injury as well as the surgical approach taken in the first surgery. Two stacked inset illustrations show the detail of the surgery - patellar retinaculum release - and the pre-operative condition revealing a chondral defect. The next two insets detail the following surgery - shaving of the medial meniscus - and the condition of the meniscus prior to surgery. Two final stacked insets show articular surface of the femur inflammed with Grade 2 chondromalacia. The last image shows the surgical procedure performed to remove the defective tissue.
