Description: This exhibit begins with a sagittal view of the abdominal region of this male patient illustrating the substantial post-operative scar tissue has developed leading to adhesion of small bowel loops to the previously placed Marlex mesh. These adhesions cause distortion of the bowel leading to the obstruction of one loop. Also, the umbilical hernia is shown below the level of the previous mesh repair.rnrnFinally, the key steps of this additional abdominal repair are illustrated. These images show how the abdomen is again opened, how the previously placed mesh is removed, how the adhesions are freed to release the bowel obstruction and how the umbilical hernia is excised.
