Description: This is a single illustration of the stomach after the patient’s roux-en-y gastric bypass procedure. The proximal pouch, including the esophagus, funds, and cardiac sphincter is stapled off from the body of the stomach, or distal pouch.

The jejunum is cut. The distal cut end is sewn to the proximal pouch in a gastrojejunostomy connection. The proximal cut end is attached in a side-to-side anasmostesis with the roux limb (the part of the jejunum attached to the proximal pouch) in a jejnuojejunostomy connection.
