Description: This stock medical exhibit depicts a left lower leg injury with internal fixation. The exhibit begins with one anterior skeletal view of the left lower leg clearly revealing the comminuted fracture of the proximal tibial shaft. Also shown are the key steps involved in the internal fixation procedure beginning with a midline incision just inferior to the knee. Next is a skeletal view of the left lower leg illustrating the insertion of lag screws into the tibia securing large fracture fragments and a proximal tibial plate is secured to the tibia with multiple screws. Then a cancellous bone graft is harvested from the iliac crest. Finally, that bone graft is placed into the medial fracture site.
