Left Elbow Injuries with Attempts at Surgical Repair

ID: exh41899
This stock medical exhibit depicts left elbow injuries with attempts at surgical repair in a series of illustrations. The first illustration shows the pre-operative condition of the elbow, in which the ulnar nerve is entrapped in the cubital tunnel. The second illustration shows a left medial view of the first step of the first surgery, in which the ulnar nerve is exposed through an incision in the medial elbow. Muscle origins are sharply incised and retracted. The third illustration shows the reattachment of the muscles to the medial elbow and the anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve. The fourth illustration shows the first step of the second surgery, in which the ulnar nerve is freed from the surrounding scar tissue. The fifth illustration shows the post-operative condition, in which a new tunnel has been created under the pronator teres muscle, and sharp turns in the course of the ulnar nerve have been eliminated.
