Cervix Dilatation (Dilation) and Effacement During Labor
This 3D medical animation depicts cervical dilatation (dilation) and effacement during a normal vaginal birth. As the baby progresses toward the birth canal during labor, the walls of the cervix become thinner (effacement) while the opening (os) of the cervix dilates, or becomes wider.
