Arthritis of the Left Hip with Total Hip Replacement Procedure

ID: exh4736b
This stock medical exhibit illustrates a total hip replacement procedure attributable to arthritis. The exhibit uses two major sections. The first section of the exhibit (left) depicts the pre-operative condition of the hip joint from a posterior view. The insets compare the arthritic condition of the femoral head to a normal femoral head. The second section of the exhibit (right) demonstrates the total hip arthroplasty. First, an incision into the left lateral hip to expose the joint is shown. The second graphic in this section shows the old screws and plates being removed. Next, the acetabulum is shown fitted with a plastic cup. Lastly, the replacement of the femoral head with a prosthesis is shown.
